User Story

Customer wants to have a multiple shared quota for car tracking service through the SIM cards ( normal cases include up to 20k SIM cards under the customer, but there is no real limit for the number of SIM Cards per Customer ) with the following options:

  • limit the traffic in order to avoid spending extra funds when all the quotas are exhausted;
  • allow the traffic above the quota if the service is important for the user and he is ready to pay for extra traffic: charged according to the assigned tariff with NO discount.

Use Cases

Use Case #1: Service is blocked when the customer shared quota is exhausted

Roles: Administrator, Customer, User

Preconditions:

There are 500 users under company "Super TIR trucks" with different quotas:

  1. TYPE A:
    • 400 users (each representing a SIM card) with 5 Mb quota per user;
    • they can use 10 SMS per Billing Cycle and they can borrow SMS volume from the TYPE B Users/SIM Cards;

    • they can make calls to one number only and it is charged extra for this.

  2. TYPE B:
    • 100 users (also SIM cards) with 3 Mb quotas;
    • they can use 2 SMS per Billing Cycle and they CAN NOT borrow SMS volume from the TYPE B Users/SIM Cards;
    • they cannot make any calls;
  3. 200 TYPE A Sim Cards and 30 TYPE B Sim Cards belongs to Shared Plan ALFA;
  4. 199 TYPE A Sim Cards and 70 TYPE B Sim cards belongs to Shared Plan BETA;
  5. 1 TYPE A SIM Card does not belong to Shared Plan ALFA or BETA (individual discount plan for customer who might have other assigned discounts or shared bundles);
  6. The quotas are renewed at the end of the billing period. The billing period is monthly anniversary;
  7. Therefore:
  • quotas ALFA and BETA do not communicate between each other;
  • the ALFA quota is: 200 * 5 + 30 * 3 = 1090 Mb;
  • the ALFA quota for SMS is 200 * 10 + 30 * 2 = 2060 SMS to be used by TYPE A Users, but only 60 to be used by TYPE B Sim Cards;
  • the BETA quota is: 199 * 5 + 70 * 3 = 1205 Mb;
  • the BETA quota for SMS is 199 * 10 + 70 * 2 = 2130 SMS to be used by TYPE A Users, but only 140 to be used by TYPE B Sim Cards;
  • there are no voice minutes included in the SIM Cards and TYPE A can do calls, but will be charged extra for each one of them;

Scenario #1.1:

  • Administrator creates 2 Shared quota ALFA and BETA and assigns it to a customer "Super TIR trucks" on January the 1st (2295 Mb);

  • By January the 20th ALFA 100 users used 4 Mb each and 50 users used 8 Mb each;

  • As a result, the shared quota ALFA is reduced by 400 and shared quota BETA by 200 Mb;

  • By January the 25th users in quota ALFA have used all the remaining quota and the ALFA Quota borrow traffic from BETA quota if there is still quota in the BETA. If not, users are blocked;

  • On February the 1st, ALFA and BETA quota are automatically renewed and all users are allowed to use the service again;

  • SMS Quota is managed differently, blocking usage on TYPE B SIM Cards and NOT allowed to borrow up to the limit of TYPE A + TYPE B available SIM Cards;

  • Voice have quota and are allowed and charged per minute to TYPE A SIM Cards;

Use Case #2: Certain service is allowed when the customer shared quota is exhausted

Roles: Administrator, Customer, User

Preconditions:

There are 500 users under company "Super TIR trucks" with different quotas:

  1. TYPE A:
    • 400 users (each representing a SIM card) with 5 Mb quota per user;

  3. 200 TYPE A Sim Cards and 30 TYPE B Sim Cards belongs to Shared Plan ALFA;
  4. 199 TYPE A Sim Cards and 70 TYPE B Sim cards belongs to Shared Plan BETA;
  5. 1 TYPE A SIM Card does not belong to Shared Plan ALFA or BETA (individual discount plan for customer who might have other assigned discounts or shared bundles);
  6. The quotas are renewed at the end of the billing period. The billing period is monthly anniversary.

  • the BETA quota for SMS is 199 * 10 + 70 * 2 = 2130 SMS to be used by TYPE A Users, but only 140 to be used by TYPE B Sim Cards;
  • there are no voice minutes included in the SIM Cards and TYPE A can do calls, but will be charged extra for each one of them;

If Shared Quota Alfa finishes, Alfa Quota can borrow from Shared Quota Beta, but vice versa is not allowed.

Scenario #2.1:

    • Administrator creates 2 Shared quota ALFA and BETA and assigns it to a customer "Super TIR trucks" on January the 1st (2295 Mb);

    • By January the 20th ALFA 100 users used 4 Mb each and 50 users used 8 Mb each;

    • SMS Quota is managed differently, blocking usage on TYPE B SIM Cards and it is allowed to borrow up to the limit of TYPE A + TYPE B available SIM Cards;

    • Voice have quota and are allowed and charged per minute to TYPE A SIM Cards;

Use Case #3: Dynamic quota change (which may occur together with any of previous scenarios)

Roles: Administrator, Customer, User

Preconditions:

There are 500 users under company "Super TIR trucks" with different quotas:

  1. TYPE A:
    • 400 users (each representing a SIM card) with 5 Mb quota per user;
    • they can use 10 SMS per Billing Cycle and they can borrow SMS volume from the TYPE B Users/SIM Cards;

    • they can make calls to one number only and it is charged extra for this.

  2. TYPE B:
    • 100 users (also SIM cards) with 3 Mb quotas;
    • they can use 2 SMS per Billing Cycle and they CAN NOT borrow SMS volume from the TYPE B Users/SIM Cards;
    • they cannot make any calls;
  3. 200 TYPE A Sim Cards and 30 TYPE B Sim Cards belongs to Shared Plan ALFA;
  4. 199 TYPE A Sim Cards and 70 TYPE B Sim cards belongs to Shared Plan BETA;
  5. 1 TYPE A SIM Card does not belong to Shared Plan ALFA or BETA (individual discount plan for customer who might have other assigned discounts or shared bundles);
  6. The quotas are renewed at the end of the billing period. The billing period is monthly anniversary.

If Shared Quota Alfa finishes, Alfa Quota can borrow from Shared Quota Beta, but vice versa is not allowed.

Scenario #3.1: Dynamic quota change with allowed services when the customer shared quota is exhausted

  • Terminated/Blocked users need to impact their specific Quotas, by reducing the volume in each one of them;

  • New users need to impact their specific Quotas, by increasing the volume in each one of them;

  • By January the 25th users have used all the remaining quota and the service is blocked for ALL users;

  • On February the 1st the quota is automatically renewed, and all users are allowed to use the service again;

Scenario #3.2: Dynamic quota change with blocking the service when the customer shared quota is exhausted

  • Terminated/Blocked users need to impact their specific Quotas, by reducing the volume in each one of them;

  • New users need to impact their specific Quotas, by increasing the volume in each one of them;

  • By February the 5th users have used all the remaining quota and the service is allowed and billed according to the assigned tariff with NO discount. This is specific per Shared Plan;

  • On February the 1st the quota is automatically renewed. All users are allowed to use the service with 100% discount within the quota.

Other requirements / constraints

  1. When account(s) is/are removed, the quota is reduced pro-rate, but when new users are created, the full monthly quota is added. Reason: this is specifically due to Brazilian Regulations (but if this is a main issue, it can be pro-rate also);
  2. Charges should be reflected in the invoice separately i.e. separate line for free service within the quota and a separate line for non-free service above the quota (if any);
  3. All actions should be covered with the appropriate API methods;
  4. For current project, this functionality will be used for Internet Access only (Gy). Support for other services might be considered in future.
