Allow flexible definition of what is included into individual metering profiles, e.g. "Mesengers" includes WhatsApp, Skype and Vyber; "Social Networks" includes Facebook and Reddit (but not VKontakte).

This document describes implementation in the context of integration with Vedicis CoSS, but the principles should apply to any other DPI system.

Definitions, acronyms and abbreviation

  • Marketing group -  a certain type of network traffic (such as "Messengers" = WhatsApp, Vyber, GoogleHangouts; ). All network activity can be split into up to 30 marketing groups (1..30).
  • Rating group - Each rating group is used to report the usage for one or more marketing groups within Diameter request. Rating group IDs are numeric as well. Billing instructs CoSS regarding mappings between MGs and RGs in the first authorization response (so the mapping can be individual per user)
