Project Goal

According to Swiss news, starting May 1 2026, Switzerland is introducing a new emergency number 142 to offer immediate assistance to anyone who has experienced physical, psychological, or sexual violence, whether in the private or public sphere.

The goal is to allow CSPs to be compliant with the Istanbul Convention protecting vulnerable callers, and implement an automated data protection for emergency voice/RTT calls, ensuring xDRs (i.e. connection records using Swiss government terminology) are not disclosed on invoices. Additionally, it is required to prohibit voice/RTT calls to emergency numbers if CLI country code differs from CLD country code.

Why this project exists ?

Currently, the PortaSwitch system lacks the capability to automatically hide xDRs for specific emergency destinations from invoices. Additionally, there is no possibility to restrict voice/RTT calls to selected emergency destinations where the caller CLI country code is not included in the configured allowlist.

Who are the users / whom we bring value ?

CSP:

  •  Ensure compliance with the Istanbul Convention and national regulations for emergency services, specifically regarding call confidentiality and accessibility.
  • Automate the management of emergency call data protection, eliminating the need for manual CDR interventions or custom billing workarounds.

End user:

  • Protect the privacy of vulnerable callers by preventing emergency call records from appearing on customer invoices or connection records.
What are the benefits for CSP/ PortaSwitch owner?Regulatory compliance, simplified configuration, improved control over emergency call handling
